| New Couple Appointed for Cambridge |
|
A recent meeting of alumni, parents and friends of Cambridge Jewish student life raised nearly £25,000 to ensure a full time Chaplaincy couple could continue in Cambridge next year. With the current Chaplains, Rabbi Yehuda and Nechami Fishman, moving back to Israel this summer a new Chaplaincy couple have been recruited but a funding shortfall threatened to leave the post vacant. At the conclusion of this meeting UJC made a determined statement committing itself to employing Rabbi Simon and Sarah Mandel as the new Chaplains but appealed for donations to ensure this could be done immediately. The Mandel’s are both Oxbridge educated, have experience in student leadership, informal education, and welfare support. They are currently living in Israel with their three children and will be moving to Cambridge in August to prepare for the coming academic year. A remaining shortfall of more than £25,000 exists and a number of fundraising activities and events are planned in the months ahead to ensure the necessary funds are secured so that this post can continue giving strength to the students who depend on it each day. |
